Lowell Observatory

The observatory located one mile west of downtown historic Flagstaff was founded by Percival Lowell in 1894 and remains a fine landmark. The observatory has a rich history of observations, among those being the ones that led to the discovery of the planet PLuto in 1930.

The observatory where astronomer Percival Lowell suggested that another planet lay beyond Uranus attracts visitors to Flagstaff to enjoy night time stargazing. Guided tours of the observatory take visitors on a journey through the universe and its wonders. This major Flagstaff tourist attraction is open at variable evening hours on a nominal admission charge.
