Sacramento Memorial Auditorium

This building is home to concerts, inaugurals, commencements and other civic events. Renovation of the building provided an opportunity to improve the site and its lighting. Because of its importance to the city and state the design team developed a significant lighting system that respects the nighttime skies. The massive brick building’s largest façades are the east and west, comprising of a series of pilasters with rooflines sloping back.

There are Romeo and Juliet balconies at each of the four main fire exits. The Memorial Auditorium is a true multi-use venue having four seating levels in the Auditorium –the sloping main floor, dress circle and two balconies. It has a seating capacity totaling 3,855. The Memorial Auditorium opened in 1927 and is a National Historic Site.
