Alamitos Bay Beach

Alamitos Bay is located in Long Beach, California. It is a decent size marina which is lined with beautiful, multi-million dollar properties and home to boats of many different sizes. Naples Island and the Long Beach peninsula both are on the Alamitos Bay. The bay is home to 3 yacht clubs, Seal Beach, Long Beach and Alamitos Bay as well as the Coast Guard Station. The marina is connected to Bayshore Beach which sits off of Bayshore Drive and Ocean Blvd.

There is a small stretch of sand which extends around the marina and is flat enough to bust out the beach towel or picnic blanket for an easy and fun day out at the beach. There is a walking path around the bay and a bike trail. The bike path extends from Alamitos Bay to Shoreline Village. The 3.1-mile bike path is on the beach and begins at Alamitos Avenue on the west and extends to 54th Place on the east. Two lanes are dedicated to bicycle traffic and one lane is for pedestrians.

There are basketball and tennis courts on the north/west side of the bay, a place to rent kayaks and a snack shop. You can even rent gondolas at a place called Gondola Getaway for a romantic cruise on the bay. Bayshore Beach has a playground for the kids and picnic tables located toward the north end of the beach.

This is a tranquil beach with easy beach access and is in close proximity to great restaurants and fun shops. This is a perfect place for California boating. The bay is used not only by big yachts and sailboats but also a fun place to bring the kayaks or canoes. It is easy to launch from the shore and is somewhat protected from the elements but is said to get windy at times.

Alamitos Bay is said to light up with Christmas lights around the holiday season and there is a big boat parade around Naples Island, usually during the first week of December. Summer time is the best time to visit but the hardest time to find parking. There are only a few metered parking spaces and several spaces dedicated to boat owners. There are a few places to park along the street, on Ocean Avenue or close by in the residential communities. The parking has a time limit but it is free.
