Located in historic Hanalei district between Lihue and Haena, Waioli Mission House is set in a beautiful valley. The 1837 missionary home and grounds faithfully retain rural life of Kauai as it was 160 years ago. Collections in the house that was restored in 1921 include historical furnishings and traditional plants representing Hawaiian horticulture. Guided tours offered three days per week have you seeing the 150-year-old mission house serving as a living museum. Retaining its sense of place and most of its furnishings you get a feel of the lives of New England missionaries. The two-story, wood-frame house is an example of hybrid architecture, featuring lanais on both stories and a cookhouse in a separate building. With a lava-rock chimney, ohia-wood floors it has Hawaiian koa furniture.
