This historical site is located on Cedar Street at Sand Creek. The station building is the oldest remaining active passenger depot of the former Northern Pacific Railway. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 and is known therein as the Sandpoint Burlington Northern Railroad Station, or as the Northern Pacific Depot. Sandpoint in Idaho is a station stop for the Amtrak Empire Builder and the only stop the Builder makes in Idaho. Also it is the only Idaho Amtrak station. The station, parking lot, platforms and track are owned by BNSF Railway. The architectural style of the building follows the late 19th and 20th century Gothic and Tudor revival styles.
