Sandpoint

St Joseph s Catholic Church

St Josephs Catholic Church located in Sandpoint is a beautiful building that attracts attention of passerby’s. The first Catholics on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille arrived over 200 years ago. They were Native Americans, Catholic Iroquois from Prairie de la Magdaleine, Quebec, accompanying David Thompson of the North West Company when in 1809 he founded Kullyspell House near the mouth of the Clark Fork River.

The Church today supports the devout in the face of challenges of discipleship and ever greater fidelity to the Gospel and God’s call. All are welcome to join and the Church welcomes visitors from around the world to the parish of North Idaho. Records of the St Joseph Catholic Church of Sandpoint (1903-1965) have been microfilmed by the Family History Library in Salt Lake City.
