Bar Harbor Maine was the New England's playground for the rich and famous in the 19th century. Today most of the mansions on Millionaire Row are attractive inns and most visitors use the town as a kind of a base-camp for the nearby Acadia National Park. That doesn't mean Bar Harbor has lost any of its charm, however, and there's still a great deal to enjoy here.
Families can have fun together in Bar Harbor Maine. The Criterion Theater, a gorgeous Art Deco building from the early 1930's with a rare 'floating balcony', host concerts, plays and 1rst run movies. The Abbe Museum covers 10,000 years of Maine's fascinating history with an emphasis on the Wabenaki Indians. The Pirates Cove Adventure Golf's miniature courses and jolly pirate theme are just plain neat.
Sailors and sailors-at-heart can have many outdoor adventures in Bar Harbor. Aquaterra Adventures offers kayaking tours in and around the harbor and a Family Discover tour that the kids can join. Downeast Windjammer Cruises' 2-hour tour on its 4-masted 50-ft. schooner the Margaret Todd is quite enjoyable. The Bar Harbor Whale Watching Company will take nature lovers on tours to see Whales, seals and puffins.
