Fire Island National Seashore

Fire Island National Seashore is a nifty spot for New York hiking enthusiasts. Visitors can spend all day hiking the loop the around the sandy beach of the national seashore and the Otis Pike Wilderness Area. This excellent National Park hiking trail begins at the Smith Point Ranger Station (park rangers recommend wilderness area hikers register at the Ranger Station), at the end of the loop along the Fire Island National Seashore’s 8-mile boardwalk and provides beautiful views  of the Atlantic Ocean and Great South Bay.

Special National Park attractions include New York wildlife viewing opportunities for nesting piping plovers and least terns, migrating waterfowl, songbirds, raptors, deer and fox. Visitors should avoid disturbing the native wildlife and the primary dunes, crossing only at designated sites with stairways and boardwalks.
