Whiteface Ski Area

The Whiteface Ski Area is found near Wilmington, New York, 9 miles from Lake Placid. The mountain’s base elevation is 1,220', its summit is 4,386' and highest skiable terrain is The Slides at 4,650' (total skiing and riding over 18 miles).

If those numbers don’t impress, how about 220 skiable acres (44% Expert, 38% Intermediate, 18% Novice), including 35 acres of out of bounds skiing on “The Slides” (conditions permitting), 28.5 acres of tree skiing and a 13-acre terrain park, lift serviced, a 450 ft. Super Pipe.

The Slides, the area’s main attraction, aren’t cut trails, there is no snowmaking, and the nearest chair that services them is the Summit Quad. Accessing them requires a hike from the end of the chair into the Slides. They are steep chutes that constitute some of the most exhilarating North Dakota skiing available. The Slides are not for beginners however, and only very experienced skiers should try them.
