Lake Ashtabula is situated in one of the most scenic river valleys of Barnes county in north Dakota. The lake offers its visitors a wide range of recreational activities. It is worth visiting anytime in the year with snowmobiling cross country skiing and ice fishing in winters and boating,swimming,camping and fishing in summers. The spring and fall bring a beautiful natural view. There are three different swimming areas around the lake with seven boat launching ramps. The ramps are provided to the boaters and fisherman to access all areas of the lake. Picnic facilities and playgrounds are located at most sites near the lake. The lake has an abundant population of walleye, northern pike, white bass, yellow perch and black bullheads for all those interested in fishing. Those who are not in favor of hiking, they can enjoy the Sheyenne river valley national scenic byway. There are around 25 spots to visit near the Lake ashtabula.
