Allegheny River

The Allegheny River is sprinkled with islands. By the Pennsylvania Wilderness Act of 1984, Congress designated seven islands -- Crull's, Thompson's, R. Thompson;s, Courson, King, Baker, and No-name, as Wilderness. The islands, along with about 90 others (privately owned) dot the river between the Kinzua Dam and the town of Tionesta.

A good map of the Allegheny River water accesses is available from local Tourist Promotion Agencies or any local Forest Service office. Allegheny National Forest Administrative maps and Topographic maps are available on-line. There are 31 quadrangles covering the forest area, call 814-723-5150 or e-mail your mailing address to have an index of the topographic quadrants mailed to you.
