Summersville Lake

Summersville Lake is the largest lake in West Virginia, and the second largest rock fill dam in the Eastern United States . The most spectacular thing is it is actually a man-made reservoir but it is huge with over 2700 acres of surface water and over 60 miles of vast shoreline. On this shoreline you will come across several coves and vertical cliffs and off course unparalleled recreational opportunities.

The lake and its surroundings are blessed with pure natural beauty. The Battle Run Area of the lake has 1000' foot swimming beach. The Summersville lake is know for its cleanest, clearest freshwater makes it simply amazing and most enjoyable to swim. Life guards are not available on the beach so care should be taken while swimming. Swimming on the boat ramps are prohibited.

Apart from just relaxing on the beach, there are several activities like, fishing, boating, jet skiing, water skiing, scuba diving, hiking, snorkeling, whitewater rafting and hunting. For the convenience of the visitors, restrooms, showers, facilities for picnicking have been made available. The hiking trails, Long point, Salmon Run and Battle Run are open and wooded areas.

Gualey River National Recreation Area is the must visit site which offers the best whitewater rafting site in the world. Also there is spacious parking for trailers and, 3 boat launching sites and full service Marina.
